Reference model is an abstract representation of the entities and relationships involved in a problem space, and forms the conceptual basis for the development of more concrete models and ultimately implementations. It serves as an abstract template for the development of more specific models in a given domain, and allows for comparison between complying models.
It will be talked about two models: OSI model and TCP/IP model (protocol suite).
